Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a courtesy call from the participants of the Japan-ASEAN Vice-Ministerial Level Meeting on Defense at the Prime Minister's Office.

The Japan-ASEAN Vice-Ministerial Level Meeting on Defense invites the vice-minister level defense officials of the ASEAN countries to Japan, and aims to have frank dialogues on regional security issues, and to develop close personal relations.

The Prime Minister said in his address,

"This year will be the 40th year of ASEAN-Japan friendship and cooperation. Reinforcement of the relationships between the fast-developing ASEAN countries and Japan should definitely contribute to the peace and prosperity of the region.
I expect active and meaningful discussion in the Japan-ASEAN Vice-Ministerial Level Meeting on Defense that will be held tomorrow, so that it results in the reinforcement of relationships in the area of defense."
