Ministerial Council on Tokyo's Bid to Host the Games of the XXXII Olympiad and the 2020 Paralympic Games
Friday, March 1, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the Ministerial Council on Tokyo's Bid to Host the Games of the XXXII Olympiad and the 2020 Paralympic Games at the Prime Minister's Office.
At this meeting, opinions were exchanged on the responses to the visit by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission, and the schedule from now on.
The Prime Minister said in his address,
"Hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games will give dreams, hopes and excitement to the people.
Just as the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games showed the reconstruction from World War II, I believe that hosting this time will be a symbol of reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake, and have a historical meaning that will become the foundation of a New Japan. I am determined to definitely realize the winning of the bid.
In order to win the bid, the government will make every effort to lend support so that the movement will develop to the nationwide level, not just involving Tokyo, which is the candidate city, but also uniting the efforts of the field of sports and the business community.
Therefore, we established this Ministerial Council comprising all Cabinet members, and convened the first meeting today. I would like to ask for your active cooperation so that the Abe Cabinet can unite its efforts to make responses strategically as the entire government, in Japan and abroad."
