The Prime Minister Receives a Courtesy Call from the President of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), Mr. Tsunekazu Takeda, Olympians and Paralympians
Tuesday, January 8, 2013
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a courtesy call from Mr. Tsunekazu Takeda, President of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC), and the representative players of the Japanese National Team of the London 2012 Games of the XXX Olympiad and the London 2012 Paralympic Games, at the Prime Minister's Office.
The Prime Minister said in his address,
"Supreme Advisor to the Tokyo 2020 Bid Committee is indeed a distinct honor, and I would like to assume the role.
The 2020 Olympic Games will be held with special emotions. We received numerous supports from throughout the world at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and we must show that Japan is steadily making a recovery. It is an occasion to show the world that that the Olympic Games are held with the same supports, and I believe we can make the Olympic Games an occasion for uniting the entire world as one. I share the same wish of holding such significant Olympic Games in Japan. The Abe Cabinet will put in all its efforts, and also call for the cooperation of all parties, regardless of whether they are ruling or opposition parties.
As for the only problem that had been a point of concern, which is the support of the people, momentum and expectations are increasing thanks to the efforts of the Japan National Team at the London 2012 Games of the XXX Olympiad. I would like to further accelerate such momentum and expectations.
By pure chance, my grandfather Nobusuke Kishi served as the Supreme Advisor to the bid for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. He succeeded in winning the bid to host the Games, and I am also determined to definitely put my effort in to win the bid.
At any rate, I believe that the most important issue is to increase support from the people even more.
In this context, I believe that the overture made by the athletes who were successful in the London 2012 Games of the XXX Olympiad, in parallel with our efforts, will have the largest significance."
