Press Conference by Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru regarding the Passage of the FY2025 Initial Budget
March 31, 2025
[Provisional translation]
(On Prime Minister ISHIBA Shigeru’s reaction to the passage of the FY2025 initial budget within the fiscal year under the minority ruling coalition and his aspiration toward the upcoming government management; and how he looks back on the achievement of the Ishiba administration as it marks six months since its inauguration tomorrow)
I am pleased to announce that the budget has been passed within the fiscal year, thanks to your cooperation. Revisions were made to the budget through Diet deliberations for the first time in 29 years in the House of Representatives, and for the very first time in the House of Councillors. This demonstrates that earnest deliberations and revisions have taken place in both chambers, which, in a sense, reflects the Diet characterized by earnest deliberations, with the roles of the Government and the Diet being fully exercised.
I understand that this outcome is the result of the sincere and dedicated efforts of all parties involved in their respective positions, beyond the line dividing the ruling and opposition blocs, as well as the efforts of the Government. With the budget now passed within the fiscal year, we are committed to devoting our utmost efforts, starting April 1, to executing the budget to ensure the security and stability of the lives of our citizens, to enrich their lives against the backdrop of wage increases that exceed inflation, and to strengthen the independence and peace of Japan.
Tomorrow marks half a year since my administration was launched. Just like the just-passed budget, my Cabinet has been able to endure these six months thanks to the support and efforts of many people. We will continue to strive with the determination that each day is a crucial test. Following the passage of the budget, I will hold another press conference tomorrow at 11:00 a.m., where I will provide a more detailed explanation. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your attention.
