Letter of Condolences by Prime Minister Ishiba on the Passing of Former President H.E. Mr. Arnold Rüütel of the Republic of Estonia

On January 9, following the passing of H.E. Mr. Arnold Rüütel, Former President of the Republic of Estonia, Prime Minister Ishiba issued a letter of condolences to H.E. Mr. Kristen Michal, Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia.

In the letter, Prime Minister Ishiba stated that he is deeply saddened by the news of the passing of former President Rüütel and he extended his heartfelt condolences to the Republic of Estonia and the people of Estonia on behalf of the Government and people of Japan.

Prime Minister Ishiba also mentioned that during former President Rüütel's tenure, the Republic of Estonia reached a historic turning point in its history, including its accession to NATO and EU, and as well as former President Rüütel's visit to Japan in 2004. Prime Minister Ishiba also paid tribute to the former President Rüütel, who played a valuable role in the international community.
