On December 18, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, delivered the following message of condolences to Hon. Mr. Charlot SALWAI Tabimasmas, Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu, following the earthquake that struck the Republic of Vanuatu on December 17.
“I have been saddened by the news that the earthquake that struck Port Vila, the capital of the Republic of Vanuatu, on December 17, 2024, resulted in the loss of many lives. I convey my heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of Vanuatu.
I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the quick recovery of the people affected as well as the prompt reconstruction of the damaged areas. The Government of Japan stands with Vanuatu, our close friend, and ready to provide as much support and cooperation as needed.”
