Congratulatory Message from Prime Minister Kishida to Prime Minister of the UK Sunak

On October 25, following the appointment of the Rt Hon Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, sent a congratulatory letter to Prime Minister Sunak.
 
1. In the letter, Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan and the UK are global strategic partners that share fundamental values, and expressed his intention to work with Prime Minister Sunak to further deepen the Japan-UK relationship and maintain and strengthen the rules based international order. He also conveyed his intention to strengthen their collaboration, citing UK’s involvement in the Indo-Pacific region.
 
2. Prime Minister Kishida stated that he hoped to work together with the UK in the G7 under Japan’s presidency as well as the UN Security Council with Japan serving as a non-permanent member next year.
