Liaison Meeting of the Government and Ruling Parties

On June 4, 2024, Prime Minister Kishida attended a Liaison Meeting of the Government and Ruling Parties at the Prime Minister’s Office.
 
In his opening remarks and on the topic of diplomacy, Prime Minister Kishida said:
 
“I visited Seoul in the Republic of Korea from May 26 to 27. In the Ninth Japan-China-ROK Trilateral Summit, the first of its kind in about four and a half years, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, and I held discussions on the promotion of a wide range of future-oriented trilateral cooperation and affirmed the importance of further advancement of cooperation among the three countries, including in the economic field.
 
In the Japan-China summit meeting, the Premier and I affirmed that the two countries would seek to make progress on various challenges as well as issues of concern in line with a broad direction of comprehensively promoting a Mutually Beneficial Relationship Based on Common Strategic Interests and building constructive and stable Japan-China relations, which was reaffirmed by President Xi Jinping and me in November 2023.
 
I met face-to-face with South Korean President Yoon for the first time since last November. In the Japan-ROK Summit Meeting, President Yoon and I concurred to continue our shuttle diplomacy and decided to proceed with preparations toward the next year, which marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of the Japan-ROK relations on both sides.”
