On February 9, 2024, Prime Minister Kishida attended a Liaison Meeting of the Government and Ruling Parties at the Prime Minister’s Office.

In his opening remarks and on the topic of diplomacy, Prime Minister Kishida said:

“I held a summit meeting with Prime Minister Meloni of Italy, which will hold the G7 Presidency this year, on the 5th. The meeting served as an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations with Italy, as I thoroughly conveyed the achievements of the Hiroshima Summit and Japan’s main issues of interest to the Italian side and set the tone for G7 discussions this year.

In addition, as a result of coordination with the U.S. government following the invitation of President Biden, if circumstances permit, I am going to make an official visit to the United States to hold a Japan-U.S. summit meeting with President Biden in Washington, D.C. on April 10 and attend an official banquet and other events. It is important for Japan and the U.S. to be firmly united now all the more because the security environment surrounding Japan is increasingly severe. I believe that this official visit to the United States will be meaningful in terms of further deepening close collaboration between the two countries and showing a robust Japan-U.S. alliance to the international community facing various issues.”
