FY2022 Comprehensive Disaster Management Drills

On September 1, 2022 (Disaster Preparedness Day), Prime Minister Kishida took part in the FY2022 Comprehensive Disaster Management Drills together with all Cabinet members.
 
This year, the drills were conducted based on a scenario in which an earthquake occurred at around 7:10 a.m., with a magnitude of 9.1 and its epicenter off the southern coast of Wakayama Prefecture.
 
As part of the drills, Prime Minister Kishida walked to the assembling point at the Prime Minister’s Office and held the first meeting of the Extreme Disaster Management Headquarters and an emergency Cabinet meeting. Afterwards, the Prime Minister held a press conference to explain the overview of the earthquake and the status of the Government’s response and to give a message to the people.
 
Prime Minister Kishida then visited the venue of the joint disaster management drills in Chiba City, which were held by nine local governments in the Kanto region, by helicopter as a part of the government inspection team. At the venue, the Prime Minister observed a rescue and first aid drill, and then experienced a VR earthquake simulation vehicle, observed disaster volunteer activities, and participated in the establishment of an evacuation center at the exhibition and experience site. Afterwards, he observed a rescue drill and a firefighting drill.
