Press Conference by the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)
[Provisional Translation]
REPORTER: I have a question regarding the Japan-ROK (Republic of Korea) agreement. According to a joint public opinion poll conducted by Fuji TV and Sankei Shimbun, more than 90% of the respondents were dissatisfied that President Moon Jae-in of the ROK requested additional measures from the Government of Japan with regard to the Japan-ROK agreement, including an apology to former comfort women. In addition, more than 80% of the respondents supported the Government of Japan’s position not to comply with the request. What is the comment of the Government?
DEPUTY CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY NISHIMURA: I would like to refrain from commenting on each public opinion poll result. Having said that, the Government will continue to strongly urge the Government of the ROK to steadily implement the Japan-ROK agreement, and the Government of Japan is steadily implementing the agreement. We have no intention of budging an inch on the Japan-ROK agreement.
