[Provisional Translation]

Q&As

REPORTER: I have a question regarding the situation in North Korea. It is reported that the Government has detected radio signals suggesting North Korea could be preparing for a missile launch. Is this true?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: Firstly, the Government continuously strives to collect and analyze information regarding the developments in North Korea with great concern. Due to the nature of the matter I would like to refrain from commenting on every specific detail. The Government will continue to work closely with the United States and the Republic of Korea in utilizing a variety of means to step up pressure on North Korea to the maximum, and cause it to change its policies. In addition, we will make every effort to collect and analyze the necessary information as well as conduct monitoring and surveillance activities in taking all possible measures to ensure peace and security in Japan, while also cooperating with China and Russia.

REPORTER: North Korea is demonstrating that it is strongly against  the measures taken by Japan and the United States. Do you perceive that the situation has intensified further?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: We will conduct monitoring and surveillance constantly to ensure the safety and security of the people of Japan. We are responding to the situation with this intention.
