Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)
[Provisional Translation]
Q&As
REPORTER: The extension of the Diet session for 95 days until September 27 makes it the longest regular session of the Diet in history. What were the reasons for making the decision to extend the Diet session?
CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: As you are all aware, the period of the Diet session is determined by both houses of the Diet. Therefore I would like to refrain from making any comment from a Government standpoint. However, I am aware that as a result of a meeting between party leaders of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Komeito party held today, it was decided to seek a 95 day extension until September 27 of the current regular session of the Diet in order to secure sufficient time for deliberations on various important bills, including security-related legislation, and ensure their passage. The Government intends to fully meet its duty to provide explanations and will make every effort to achieve the passage of remaining bills.
