Statement by the Chief Cabinet Secretary
on the Visit to Canada
and the United States of America
by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan

17th July 2009


Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan made an Official Visit to Canada and the State of Hawaii of the United States of America.
Their Majesties traveled for 15 days from 3rd July, and returned to Japan on 17th safe and sound.
During their stay in Canada, Their Majesties were warmly welcomed by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada and His Excellency Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond.
In the State of Hawaii of the United States of America, Their Majesties attended the Banquet in Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship Foundation and were cordially received by Honorable Linda Lingle, the Governor of the State of Hawaii.
They heartily enjoyed the opportunities of exchanges with people of these countries.

It is truly a matter for congratulation that a great progress has been made to the advancement of friendly relations between Japan and these countries by Their Majesties' visit.

It is expected that this visit will strengthen friendly relationship with these countries even further in future.
