(Provisional Translation) Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary on the General Elections of the House of Representatives October 28, 2003 Today it has been officially notified that the general elections for the House of Representatives will be held on November 9, 2003. The Government of Japan strongly hopes that these general elections will be consistently undertaken in a fair and smooth manner in order to ensure the sound progress of politics based on parliamentary democracy in our nation. I earnestly hope that the voters exercise their right to vote based on the full recognition that the will indicated by the people through the election will determine the future direction of our nation's politics. I call upon civil servants to pay due attention and, as servants of the public good, strictly obey the stipulations of the law and refrain from any political activities that would have the objective of supporting a particular political party or candidate, or conversely, opposing any party or candidate.
