1.	The ninth Meeting of the Overseas Economic Cooperation Council was held; Prime Minister, Chief Cabinet Secretary, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister of Finance, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Minister of the Environment attended the meeting.
2.	In the meeting, strategic implementation of overseas economic cooperation in the field of environment was discussed in the context of the G8 summit in Heiligendamm next month and Japan's hosting of the G8 summit and TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) IV next year.
3.	It was agreed that Japan will continue to consider the environment as one of the most important areas of policy and promote overseas economic cooperation in this area in a prioritized and emphasized manner through grant aid, technical assistance, Yen loans, and JBIC's international financial operations, recognizing that it is increasingly important to overcome bottlenecks to development in developing countries, to address pollution which has a direct negative impact on Japan, and to contribute to solving global issues such as climate change and that Japan can make use of its own experience and technology in the field.
