Six United Nations youth ambassadors taking part in drug abuse prevention activities in Japan paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. The youth ambassadors, selected from among secondary and high school students engaged in a nationwide campaign to publicize the U.N.-designated International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26) and raise funds to assist U.N. drug abuse prevention activities, were about to leave for Austria to present the funds raised to the U.N. International Drug Control Program, headquartered in Vienna. The Prime Minister encouraged the youth ambassadors, saying, "In addition to reporting the results of your fund-raising campaign and conveying your strong commitment to worldwide drug abuse prevention to the U.N., you have the highly significant mission of studying the world drug abuse situation and establishing ties of friendship and goodwill with Austrian young people."
