The Council for Science and Technology Policy held its third meeting at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. In January Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori had charged the council to consider a comprehensive strategy for science and technology . At this meeting the council presented the results of its intensive study of the issue to the Prime Minister. Accepting the report, the Prime Minister said. "I thank you for your robust, concrete, and practical proposals, which form a fitting basis for the promotion of Japan's science and technology. On the basis of these recommendations the government will promptly draw up a basic plan for science and technology and strive to realize the policies proposed. The Council for Science and Technology Policy will continue to take strategic, dynamic initiatives to promote science and technology so that Japan can generate research that can lead the world and be utilized by industry."
