- The Prime Minister of Japan Junichiro Koizumi and the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, having recalled the successful progress of cooperation through the Science and Technology Center of Ukraine (STCU) and the International Chornobyl Center (ICC), shared the view that there is a potential for further cooperation in the field of science and technology, in order to address challenges that the two countries are facing in the 21st century.
- In order to further promote such cooperation, both sides expressed their intention to revitalize the cooperation under the Agreement Between Japan and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on Cooperation in Science and Technology, signed on October 10th, 1973, and to hold Japan-Ukraine Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation under the Article 3 of the said Agreement at the mutually acceptable time. Both sides expressed their readiness to explore concrete areas for cooperation of mutual interest through discussions in the Committee.
- Both sides intend to encourage the exchange between relevant organizations and experts of the two countries in order to promote the cooperation in the field of science and technology. In this context, both sides also intend to encourage the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)@and appropriate Ukrainian counterpart such as the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine to promote research exchanges between the two countries including exchanges of young researchers.
