Junior Reporters from Okinawa Pay Courtesy Call on the Prime Minister
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a courtesy call from a group of junior reporters from Okinawa. This year, 14 junior reporters from Hakodate City also participated in addition to 40 junior reporters from Okinawa. The junior reporters welcomed Prime Minister Koizumi with a choral singing of "Pea Flowers," and Miss Tsuzumi Janado, a sixth grade student from the Elementary School Attached to the College of Education, University of the Ryukyus, performed the Nubai-kuduchi, an Okinawan dance. Miss Hikaru Miyauchi, a third year student at Naha Junior High School, made an address on behalf the junior reporters that expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Koizumi for the exchange over the course of the five years since he took office. Prime Minister Koizumi delivered an address and encouraged them, saying, "People from the north and the south have come together for this activity and experienced something that they would not have been able to experience were it not for this opportunity. Taking this good experience, which cannot be gained through studying at school, as an opportunity, I want you to make the most of this and try your best in a number of different areas in the future."
