The Joint Meeting of the 7th Ministerial Meeting Concerning Measures Against Crime and the 3rd Meeting of the Headquarters for Youth Development was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

The Plan to Promote Children's Safety and Security, which is designed to protect children from turning to delinquency or being victimized by crime, was decided at the meeting. Based on the idea that to protect children from delinquency and crime victimization, it is necessary to make efforts involving the entire local community, the plan sets forth the direction of strengthened efforts from now on with three perspectives that call for each local community to: i) mobilize its resources to protect children from delinquency and crime victimization; ii) nurture the strength of children to resist delinquency and crime; and iii) support children facing difficulties to recover themselves and pursue other efforts.

Thereafter, the relevant ministers and officials gave explanations on countermeasures for organized crime and measures to prevent repeated offenses, as well as follow-ups to the Action Plan for Realization of a Society Resistant to Crime and the Action Plan for Prevention of Terrorism.

In closing, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said, "The solidarity of each local community, cooperation between the public and private sectors, coordination among ministries and agencies, and international partnership are indeed all indispensable. It is essential that we put into action measures that are in line with our current action plans. I would further like to enhance our tie-ups to fulfill our responsibility to keep public peace. I would appreciate your cooperation in this endeavor."
