Prime Minister Hosts the Welcome Reception for the World Economic Forum on East Asia
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi hosted the welcome reception for the World Economic Forum on East Asia at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. The forum was held for the first time in Japan as the East Asian version of the World Economic Forum, which is also known as the Davos Forum. The welcome reception for the forum was joined by about 250 participants, including Professor Klaus Schwab, the Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, who will chair the forum in Tokyo, as well as Mr. Kakutaro Kitashiro, the Chairman of Keizai Doyukai (Japan Association of Corporate Executives). Prime Minister Koizumi addressed the participants, saying, "Asia is a significantly influential area for the world economy in terms of population, economic vitalization, and other aspects. Japan would like to advance reform to vitalize the economy jointly with these Asian countries which are full of potential." Executive Chairman Schwab expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Koizumi for hosting the reception, responding, "Japan has been making achievements in its commitment to structural reform, which has been promoted with the vision of the Prime Minister himself. I wish Japan sustainable growth in its economy into the future."
