Japan-Latvia Summit Meeting
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held a meeting with Mr. Aigars Kalvitis, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. Prime Minister Koizumi said, "A young prime minister. Thirty-nine years old, I heard," and Prime Minister Kalvitis responded, "Because our country is young. Young countries afford various opportunities to young people." When Prime Minister Koizumi asked about the new Embassy of Latvia in Japan, Prime Minister Kalvitis said, "We have been discussing the plan for the past five years and regard our new embassy as of high significance. Japan, which has a central presence in the world and is an economic center, is very important for us. We would like to have highly robust relations with Japan in the economic, tourism, cultural, and other aspects."
