Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi viewed the "FUROSHIKI" Exhibition held in Chuo Ward of Tokyo.

The exhibition displayed sheets of furoshiki, Japanese traditional wrapping cloth, under the theme the beauty of wrapping and the beauty of carrying. About 30 designers and notable figures challenged themselves to create their own furoshiki. Their works were presented in forms of spread-out or wrapping objects. They attracted everyone, both men and women, as modern-style furoshiki for carrying. The exhibition is designed as an opportunity to reaffirm the art of wrapping and review the habit of excessive use of wrapping materials.

Asked for his impressions, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "It is marvelous. So many ways to wrap things. They hardly look like furoshiki. They are beautiful pictures, indeed artworks. They have opened new eyes. A slight change of inspiration can make things so enjoyable."
