Japan-Saudi Arabia Summit Meeting
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held a meeting with His Royal Highness Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at the Prime Minister's Residential Quarters. At the meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi said he would like to welcome wholeheartedly the visit of His Royal Highness in the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Saudi Arabia. Prime Minister Koizumi also paid his respects to His Royal Highness, who strives for the reform of his country along with His Royal Highness King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. His Royal Highness conveyed a message from His Royal Highness King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud that he regards Japan as an important friend in the world and that he is pleased that Japan-Saudi Arabia relations have been developing exceedingly smoothly in recent years. Furthermore, the two leaders talked about the bilateral relations between Japan and Saudi Arabia, their cooperation in the oil sector, and situations in the Middle East including Iran and Iraq. After the meeting, a signing ceremony in the presence of the two leaders was held between Mr. Taro Aso, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and His Excellency Dr. Nizar Bin Obaid Madani, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, for the memorandum on the policy discussion between the two countries.
