Prime Minister Delivers Address to New Civil Servants
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi attended the ceremony inaugurating the joint training for new civil servants held at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center located in Yoyogi, Tokyo, and delivered an address to the new civil servants. The joint training is conducted for newly hired civil servants, for whom there are expectations as the core personnel in administrative management in the future, and aims to promote their awareness for the senses of ethics and mission required to them as the servants of the entire people of Japan and to nurture their views in deliberating measures based on this awareness. The joint training is held in camp-style and participated by approximately 680 people this year. Addressing the newly hired civil servants, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "You must not forget that you became a civil servant out of your own will and desire. Whether you are facing difficult or tough times, 'never forget what it was like to be a beginner.' The moment people feel the most sense of bliss or fulfillment is when they overcome a hardship. It is when people go up against a hardship and overcome it instead of escaping from it with a sense of reluctance. It is a matter of course that you pursue your assigned duties according to the instruction given by other people or your superiors. It is important to get down to work even if nobody instructs or asks you to. It is precisely during these difficult and tough times that I would like you to work hard with a positive attitude, confidence in their voice and enthusiasm."
