Primary School Students Working on Global Warming Issues Pay Courtesy Call on the Prime Minister
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a courtesy call from primary school students working on global warming issues. These are eight primary school students from Tokyo and Okayama Prefecture, who presented the initiatives of their local communities at a symposium held by the Global Legislators Organization for a Balanced Environment (GLOBE Japan) in February. The primary school students reported, "Now that the Kyoto Protocol has entered into effect, we would continuously like to protect our precious Earth by working on things we can do no matter how small they are, while joining hands with the people of the world striving to prevent global warming." In response, Prime Minister Koizumi indicated to the students the importance of environmental protection, saying, "Environmental issues can be approached not only from the perspective that we will bestow our precious Earth on generations of our children and grandchildren, but also from the perspective that we have borrowed the Earth from future children. Therefore, we should use our Earth preciously and strive to improve its environment."
