Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a courtesy call from fashion designer Ms. Hiroko Koshino and other members who will participate in the second run of the Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo scheduled from March 17, 2006. Prime Minister Koizumi viewed an on-site fashion show presented by the participating designers.

The Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo is aimed at enhancing efforts to send out information in a bid to promote Japanese fashion to the world market through a large-scale fashion event held jointly by the government and the private sector.

On behalf of the participating designers, Ms. Hiroko Koshino presented her compliments by saying, "On our part, we also need to strive hard to present to the world our wonderful creations that are unique to Japan. We are truly inspired that we have been able to start our event this year from this place today. This is something that we have been wishing for, for a long time."

Prime Minister Koizumi gave his words of encouragement by saying, "Little did I imagine that I would see a fashion show in my office. Japan's appeal is not limited to cars, sushi, or Kabuki; the country also has an abundance of good resources in the field of fashion as well. Please harness your ability to the fullest extent in order to vigorously transmit Japanese fashion to the world. Although the support that the government can provide in terms of fashion is limited, I would be most happy if you would take the occasion of holding this event in my office as support and encouragement from the government and keep up your efforts."
