The Second Meeting of the Headquarters for the Promotion of Privatization of the Postal Services
The second meeting of the Headquarters for the Promotion of Privatization of the Postal Services was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. At the meeting, the Headquarters reported on the establishment of the Japan Postal Services Holding Company and other issues. It then decided on the basic plan concerning the transfer of operations from Japan Post, and approved instructions on drawing up plans to implement the transfer. In his closing remarks, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "I expect that the work of privatizing the postal services will now move into full gear. Once defeated in the Diet, the privatization bill was revived through the election with the support of the people. Some said it would require a miracle to privatize the postal services, but we were able to achieve it through an extremely dramatic process. I expect that all members of the Cabinet will work in accord to pursue the upcoming task in order to create an excellent company.
