Prime Minister Observes Textile Manufacturing Company in Kyoto

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi visited a textile manufacturing company in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. Prime Minister Koizumi visited a long-standing company that develops "sellable products" by harnessing innovative ideas. He observed the steps involved in the making of interior furnishings such as Nishijin weaves and curtains that utilize traditional techniques. At a museum, Prime Minister Koizumi saw the restored "The Colors of Nishiki," the flag of the imperial forces in the last days of the Tokugawa Shogunate and modern-style bed covers. He also had the opportunity to weave a stage curtain with a large loom. After his tour, in response to a question from a reporter, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "Japanese techniques and traditional culture are both admirable."
