Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held a meeting with His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, the 28th King of the Kingdom of Morocco, who is visiting Japan on a State Visit, in the "Asahi-No-Ma (Rising Sun Room)" of the State Guest House in Moto-Akasaka, Tokyo.

Prime Minister Koizumi extended his welcome by saying, "I am very pleased to see that Japan and Morocco are developing strong bilateral relations." Prime Minister Koizumi also commented that the year 2006 will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Morocco and expressed his wish that bilateral relations develop further on this occasion.

In response, King Mohammed VI said, "I recognize that Japan is our best partner in Asia," and expressed his gratitude for Japan's assistance to Morocco.

Moreover, Prime Minister Koizumi indicated his recognition of the necessity to advance comprehensive United Nations (UN) reforms, with which King Mohammed VI agreed, saying, "I believe it is only right that Japan takes on a larger role and greater responsibility in tackling various global issues."

Afterwards, Prime Minister Koizumi and King Mohammed VI attended a signing ceremony in the "Kacho-No-Ma (Flowers and Birds Room)" for "Exchange of Notes between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco for two Yen Loan projects" and the "Memorandum on the Promotion of Cultural Exchanges between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco."
