Prime Minister Receives a Report of the Advisory Council on the Imperial House Law
Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a report from Mr. Hiroyuki Yoshikawa, the Chair of the "Advisory Council on the Imperial House Law," at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. The "Advisory Council on the Imperial House Law" had been requested to deliberate the imperial succession system and the modalities related to this system in order to stably maintain the imperial succession into the future. Since January of this year, the Council has convened 17 meetings, in addition to informal meetings as needed, and held numerous discussions. In his address, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "Having received this significant report, the government intends to begin preparations for the submission of the necessary bills at next year's regular session of the Diet."
