Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a courtesy call from both the Japanese and German attendees of the Japan-Germany Forum at the Prime Minister's Official Residence, and held a meeting with them.

The Japan-Germany Dialog Forum (renamed "Japan-Germany Forum" in 2000) was established under an agreement between then Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa and Mr. Helmut Kohl, then Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, at the Japan-Germany Summit Meeting in April 1992 in Bonn. At this Forum, intellectuals from various circles of the two countries freely engage in discussions with the objective of strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries.

In 2005, the "Year of 'Germany in Japan 2005/2006'" which consists of events that introduce Germany to Japan is being implemented. As in 2004, the meetings of the 2005 Forum also began in Tokyo today, on October 14, and the attendees including the chairs of both Japan and Germany paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Koizumi.
