On the morning of July 8 (Japan time: evening of July 8), Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi took part in the summit meeting in which the assistance to Africa was discussed. At the meeting, the leaders talked about the provision of assistance by the international community to African countries that are suffering from poverty.

Prime Minister Koizumi then held a meeting with the leaders of African countries such as South Africa and Nigeria, and relevant officials of international organizations such as the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU).

In the afternoon, Prime Minister Blair read the Chair's Summary on behalf of the world leaders who participated in the meeting. Issues noted in the Chair's Summary include measures to counter terrorism, the global economy and oil, those concerning Africa and global warming. The Gleneagles Summit was closed after this announcement.

After the Summit was closed, Prime Minister Koizumi held a press conference in which he stated regarding the assistance to Africa, "Japan shall of course cooperate with the G8 countries and also other Asian countries so that African countries can stand on their own feet and provide assistance to the field that is most needed by African countries."

With regard to the issue of climate change, Prime Minister Koizumi remarked, "Because we pursued economic development and economic growth, we polluted our environment. We do not want developed as well as developing countries to repeat the same mistake. We need to use more environmentally friendly energies, for example, by using fuel cell cars or hybrid cars. Also, we need to use more wind or nuclear power and use diode instead of electrical volts. I have appealed to the gathering that we need to be more kind to the environment."

Prime Minister Koizumi left for Japan on the government plane around midnight of the same day (Japan time: morning of July 9).
