Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi attended the commemorative ceremony for the "Japan Day" of the 2005 World Exposition, Aichi. The commemorative ceremony introducing Japanese culture through music and cutting-edge technologies was held in audience of His Imperial Highness The Crown Prince, who is serving as the Honorary President of the exposition. At the ceremony, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "I believe that science and technology hold the key to achieving environmental protection and economic development. I ask that people around the world will take the Japan Day as an opportunity for together thinking of a future where people and nature can coexist." After delivering his speech, Prime Minister Koizumi visited the Mammoth Laboratory at the Global House and listened to the explanation on the exhibit with fascination, asking questions such as, "Are these real tusks?" Prime Minister Koizumi then visited the Japan Pavilion Nagakute, which is covered by a bamboo cage, and the Corporate Pavilion Zone. While on his way from one destination to the next, Prime Minister Koizumi received welcoming words from many passersby. To this, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "I am grateful for all the encouraging words I received. I have deeper confidence that the privatization of the postal services must be realized, as many people here today have encouraged me to put in all my efforts for this reform." The Exposition is scheduled to be held until September 25 with the participation of 121 countries including Japan and four international organizations.
