Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi visited Yokosuka City in Kanagawa Prefecture to make a tour around Yokosuka Research Park where research institutes on information and telecommunications are concentrated as well as Nagai Uminote Park-Hill of Soleil.
At Yokosuka Research Park, which aims to become the international development base in mobile communications, Prime Minister Koizumi observed cutting-edge technologies such as the advanced wireless relay system for disaster prevention. This technology allows direct transmission of moving images of the damage in disaster-stricken areas recorded on a fixed camera on a motor bicycle to the disaster prevention headquarters. At the Park, Prime Minister Koizumi casually shook hands and took commemorative photographs with other visitors to the facility. Asked for his impression of this visit by the press, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "Great facilities and technologies have been developed. I learned a lot today."
