Prime Minister Visits Southwest Asia and Europe

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi left the air base in Islamabad, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on the government plane on the morning of May 1 (Japan time: afternoon of May 1) and arrived at Findel International Airport in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Japan time: early morning of May 2). Prime Minister Koizumi, as the first prime minister of Japan to visit Luxembourg, attended the welcome ceremony at the Clairefontaine Square downtown. Prime Minister Koizumi then took a walk around the old urban district, with Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, as his guide. In the evening, Prime Minister Koizumi attended a dinner hosted by HRH Grand Duke Henri. The topic of "safety," such as earthquakes and traffic safety in Japan, became one of the subjects of conversation, and Prime Minister Koizumi explained, "We are striving to reduce by half the number of victims of traffic accidents."
