Prime Minister Visits Southwest Asia and Europe

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi arrived in Islamabad, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the second stop of his visit, on the morning of April 30 (Japan time: afternoon of April 30). After the welcome ceremony, Prime Minister Koizumi met with General Pervez Musharraf, the President of Pakistan, at the Prime Minister House. Prime Minister Koizumi expressed his appreciation for Pakistan's stance of actively making an effort for the fight against terrorism and praised President Musharraf's leadership. Prime Minister Koizumi also expressed his intention to resume yen loans to Pakistan, which had been suspended since it conducted nuclear testing in 1998. Prime Minister Koizumi then met with Mr. Shaukat Aziz, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and the two leaders agreed that the governments of Japan and Pakistan would continue policy consultations, security dialogue and high-level economic consultations on a regular basis, and agreed to continue high-level exchanges including the leaders of the two countries.
