Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi attended the ceremony inaugurating the joint training for new national public employees held at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center located in Yoyogi, Tokyo, and delivered an address to the new national public employees.

The joint training is conducted for newly hired national public employees, for whom there are expectations as core personnel in administrative management in the future, and aims to promote their awareness as servants of the greater good of all and to nurture their views in deliberating measures considering the full perspective of the people of Japan. The joint training is held in camp-style and participated by approximately 730 people this year.

Addressing the newly hired national public employees, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "I hope that you will bring in new energy to the administration by breaking away from the outdated practices used in Kasumigaseki, which are frequently criticized for creating a vertically-segmented administrative system." He also quoted the Analects of Confucius, "The wise man is in harmony with other people and is not easily compromised; the man without virtue is easily compromised and not in harmony with other people," and said, "I ask that you all, as members of an organization, be 'harmonious' with people holding different views and endeavor for the realization of public benefit. I would like each one of you to constantly think about what it is that you can do as a servant of the greater good of all. I congratulate you on your boundless future and wish for your successes."
