Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a courtesy call from the members of the Japan-Russia Eminent Persons' Council at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

The Japan-Russia Eminent Persons' Council was established based on agreement for the purpose of having Japanese and Russian eminent persons discuss the mid- and long-term outlook toward enhancement of Japan-Russia bilateral relations from unrestricted, free standpoints between Prime Minister Koizumi and Mr. Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation at the Japan-Russia Summit held on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand in October 2003 where its The first meeting of this Council took place in April 2004 in Moscow, and today's meeting in Tokyo was the second round of the meeting.

After their meeting, Mr. Yury Luzhkov, the Mayor of Moscow, who serves as Chair of the Russian side and Mr. Yoshiro Mori, the former Prime Minister of Japan, who serves as Chair of the Japanese side, visited the Prime Minister's Official Residence. Co-Chair Mori reported to Prime Minister Koizumi, "We held our second meeting today and were able to freely exchange opinions under the agenda item 'Recommendation for Japan and Russia in the New Age: Construction of a Strategic Partnership Upon Welcoming the 150th Anniversary Since the Signing of the Japan-Russia Treaty of Amity.'"
