The Ninth Meeting of the Intellectual Property Policy Headquarters
At the meeting, the "Package to expedite the measures against counterfeit and pirated goods" was decided upon as the action plan for the government to expedite the measures against counterfeit and pirated goods, especially for those produced abroad. This package insists that Japan need to speed up its process to implement the measures against counterfeit and pirated goods and present both domestically and abroad as the Government of Japan its firm stance on this issue, taking into account the urgency of these measures. Specifically, the package calls for expediting the measures on five items, including investigation on the status of infringement of intellectual property rights abroad and measures for overseas market through bilateral consultations. In the closing of the meeting, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said, "Japan's policy on intellectual property strategy is steadily advancing. I wish for the policy to continue to be advanced boldly and with speed. I expect an enhanced bill to be submitted to the next ordinary session of the Diet, building on the action plan decided today."
