Prime Minister Attends Meeting of Nation's Prefectural Governors

The annual government-sponsored meeting of the nation's prefectural governors was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi in attendance.

At the meeting, with regards to the "reform package of the three issues" which reviews the modality of the Government and the local community, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "Six local organizations have compiled a proposal, despite discussions both for and against the contents. I will take this proposal seriously and consider how best to realize the reforms. The Government will respect the points outlined in the proposal in compiling the reform plan." In response, Mr. Taku Kajiwara, the Chairman of the National Governors' Association and the governor of Gifu Prefecture, requested that, "We expect the Government to present us with the general outline of the reform package of the three issues that is in line with the reform proposals on state subsidy, among others, that the six local organizations have compiled."
