Prime Minister Meets with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda Wednesday, August 25, 2004 Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held a meeting with Mr. Apolo Robin Nsibambi, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, who is visiting Japan to attend the memorial service for the late former Prime Minister Zenko Suzuki, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. At the meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi said that Japan highly evaluates the efforts of Uganda in measures against HIV/AIDS and in its pursuit of stability in the region through enhancing of its friendly relations with its neighboring countries. Prime Minister Nsibambi expressed his gratitude towards Japan's assistance to Uganda as well as its assistance for the development of African countries through the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD). Furthermore, Prime Minister Nsibambi stated his expectation for Japan to provide reconstruction and humanitarian assistance to the northern region of Uganda, which has been devastated by the activities of antigovernment forces.
