Prime Minister Meets with the Governor of Okinawa Prefecture
At the meeting, Governor Inamine handed Prime Minister Koizumi a petition regarding the incident of an U.S. military helicopter crashing onto the campus of Okinawa International University on August 13. The petition requested the Government of Japan to insist that the U.S. Forces should fully uncover the cause of the incident and work to prevent a recurrence of such an incidence as well as ground its fleet until recurrence prevention measures are established. Prime Minister Koizumi, while showing his understanding of the severe situation faced by the people of Okinawa, said that the Government will request the United States to exert its utmost effort in the investigation into the cause of this incident and for recurrence prevention.
