Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held a meeting with Mr. Ricardo Maduro, the President of the Republic of Honduras, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the meeting, President Maduro proposed to hold a "Japan-Central America Summit Meeting" with Prime Minister Koizumi and the leaders of the Central American countries during the Exposition of Global Harmony (EXPO 2005 Aichi) to be held in Aichi Prefecture from next March in light of "Central America Day" on August 19, 2005. Prime Minister Koizumi took a positive attitude toward this proposal.

Furthermore, President Maduro shared with Prime Minister Koizumi that the story of "One hundred sacks of rice," which was introduced by Prime Minister Koizumi in his General Policy Speech, has been translated into Spanish and has been performed 27 times in Honduras. To this, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "I am very happy. As two countries that share the story of 'one hundred sacks of rice', I wish to further deepen our friendly relations."
