This Contest was held with participation of contestants representing high schools in Hokkaido. The first prize (the Minister of Foreign Affairs Prize) was awarded to Yumeko Takahashi, a second-year student at Asahikawa Fuji Girls' High School, while second prize (the Governor of Hokkaido Prize) went to Tomomi Kaneko, a third-year student at Hokkaido Yuho High School and Chiori Kurotaki, a third-year student at Kushiro Midorigaoka High School.
Prime Minister Koizumi congratulated the three by saying, "Was the speech each about seven minutes long? I am sure that you have been practicing quite a lot. This experience will help you in the future, so keep up your efforts."
