Commemorative Ceremony for the 55th Anniversary of Fire Fighting and Disaster Management System under Local Governments Thursday, November 20, 2003 Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi attended the Commemorative Ceremony for the 55th Anniversary of Fire Fighting and Disaster Management System under Local Governments held at the Tokyo Dome in Bunkyo ward , Tokyo. The fire fighting and disaster management system under local governments was inaugurated in 1948. As 55 years has passed since, the importance has been reaffirmed concerning the mission of fire fighting in the new century to realize a community that is safe and comfortable to live in. In the presence of the Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress, approximately 35,000 people attended the ceremony, including Prime Minister Koizumi, relevant officials of the Government, local governments and members of Diet as well as fire fighters and officials related to fire fighting and disaster management nationwide.
