Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi invited professional skier, Mr. Yuichiro Miura and his father, Mr. Keizo Miura, to the Prime Minister's Official Residence to present them the Prime Minister's Award.

Mr. Yuichiro Miura scaled Mount Everest this May at the age of 70 and established a world record as the oldest person to accomplish such a challenge. His father, Mr. Keizo Miura, succeeded in skiing down Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe this February at the age of 99. The award was presented to commemorate their achievements which brought dreams and courage to the people and contributed to the promotion of sports.

After presenting the award, Prime Minister Koizumi, who enjoys skiing as one of his hobbies, commended Mr. Miura and his father by saying, "I want to follow Mr. Miura. I do not know if I can live until 99, but I want to ski even when I get 70."
