Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held talks with Mr. Tony Blair, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland at a hotel in Hakone-machi, Kanagawa Prefecture.

At the Summit Meeting, the two leaders agreed to aim for a policy of holding five-way talks including Japan and the Republic of Korea in addition to the United States of America, the People's Republic of China and North Korea regarding the issue of nuclear development program in North Korea. The leaders also confirmed that they would make efforts through international coordination regarding the postwar reconstruction of Iraq.

In addition, the leaders discussed issues of peace in the Middle East and nuclear development program in Iran and agreed to enhance their cooperative relations in the three areas of the environment, science and technology, and information technology (IT). At the joint press conference following their Summit Meeting, the leaders announced three joint statements.
