Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held talks at a hotel in Tokyo with Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

At the meeting, the leaders agreed on a policy to work cooperatively on calling for the military government of the Union of Myanmar to promptly release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi from protective custody and to promote dialogue on democratization.

Prime Minister Mahathir conveyed the plan of King Sirajuddin ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullali to visit Japan in April 2004, and Prime Minister Koizumi extended a welcome to the plan.
